Blimp is an information design toolkit that provides an understanding of a child’s right to basic health care.

Blimp focuses on emotional and mental health and encourages the concept that a child has the right to express him/herself responsibly. The toolkit consists of three engaging, user-centred activities that incorporate principles of play therapy. These include: free play, mastery, biblioplay and dramatisation. Each activity has a different intention that reinforces a child’s right to express him/herself responsibly.

The toolkit is appropriate for children of the ages 6 – 9.

THE TOOLKIT – BOOK

Grey is a short story about how a fun-loving balloon, Grey, learns how to identify and share feelings. The story encourages communicating emotions responsibly and seeking informed help when needed. Creating awareness that others have emotions through the form of Biblioplay.

CARD GAME

Feel and Deal is a card game in which children have to apply emotions to a given scenario.

The aim of the game is for the players to select the best emotion card from their hand to match the scenario card selected by the judge. The objective of the game is to teach children how to identify emotions and to make them aware that there is more than one way to react to a situation.

Mastery: Emotional literacy by identifying and naming emotions.

GAMIFICATION

Additional games have been added to expand the toolkit. Through dramatisation and Free Play, these games can teach children how to process emotions and develop empathy. Leading to an improvement in their communication with facilitators as well as foster a deeper understanding of emotions.
